question 1:
What was your reason to start the challenge?
Late in 2019, I was playing cricket in a 20/20 on a very hot day (42 degrees). I thought I was in reasonable shape, as I played sport etc regularly. But on this day, I fielded for 20 overs and then batted for about 16 overs. By the time I walked off the field I was completely spent and come to the realisation that I was nowhere near the fitness level I needed to be. I used to drink alcohol regularly during the week and on weekends following sport or whilst playing golf. I drank at least 1 can of soft drink during the day and not a lot of water. Living this sort of lifestyle wasn’t so bad when I worked in my previous employment as an arborist and regularly climbing trees. So the diet wasn’t a priority, as the physical nature of the job allowed me to stay in a reasonable shape. When I changed my profession, it was less physically demanding, but I continued to live the same lifestyle from a diet point of view. This eventually caught up to me and unneeded to make changes, as I have two children who are actively playing sport and I want to always participate with them and be part of their sporting and life activities. I am also fast approaching 40 and I always wanted to be in good shape for this period of my life and beyond. So I signed up and completed the January challenge. In this challenge I am looking to improve on the results I achieved in January, by improving my overall body structure. If my results warranted it, I would love to finish in the Top 10 of the challenge and use the knowledge/experience I have gained to help others, as a mentor or Ambassador, in their future challenges, by continuing to complete the challenge myself.
question 2:
What did you like most about the challenge?
I have done the challenge a few times previously but I didn’t give the full commitment it required. This time I wanted to be committed and disciplined throughout the entire challenge to get healthy and in the best shape of my life. I enjoyed logging into the forum and Facebook Support groups to see the progress of other challengers and the extra energy I had throughout the day as my fitness improved. Also, having completed the Platinum Challenge this time around, I really enjoyed the direct contact with Coach Helen, as well as the advice and guidance she provided.
question 3:
What was the hardest thing about your challenge?
Breaking existing bad habits I brought into the challenge for the first couple weeks and obtaining new habits. Prior to the challenge I was stressed and drank alcohol regularly throughout the week and on weekends. During the challenge, I did not have a single alcoholic drink throughout the entire 12 weeks and I do not crave one now that we have reached the end.

What impact has the challenge had on your life?
The Challenge has had such a positive and profound impact on every aspect of my life. It has improved my relationship with my family, as I have more energy, being a role model for my children as I no longer drink and showing them how to lead a healthy lifestyle. My kids no longer have to say “Is Dad drinking again,” “Are you having another beer,” or “How many beers have you had.” I found that I had more focus and positive attitude at work, I’m healthy and proud of the effort I put into the challenge. I feel healthy, positive and proud of my effort.

What would you say to people who are thinking of doing the challenge?
I would highly recommend the Max’s/Maxines Challenge to anyone who is considering it and wants to get healthy. It has been a life changing experience for me. You will not regret it or look back.

Anything else you would like to tell us about the challenge?
My wife Kasey was absolutely incredible during the Challenge. I can’t thank her enough for all the meal prepping, encouragement and support over the last 12 weeks. Kasey is so proud of my achievement and transformation during the Challenge. Kasey also did the challenge we made it easy for meal preparation, as we were able to do it together occasionally and learn good nutritional habits together. Since Kasey began the challenge in September 2019, she has lost 20kg and I have lost 12.2kg since the January 2020 challenge. In this challenge I have alone I have lost 6.6kg and 33cm off my key chest, waist and hip measurements. I am proud to say that doing this challenge has made us both happier and healthier. Kasey is now keen to do the September Maxine’s Challenge. I can’t wait to return the encouragement and support. Thank you to Team Max’s.
